The White House Nursery opened it's first site loacted in the heart of Borrowash back in 1987. After a full renovation the nursery now provides full day care for children aged 0-5 including those claiming funded hours. Now the nursery holds a maximum of 11O children at any one time and still maintains the high standards it always has, which is strongly reflected in our Ofsted report.

BABY ROOM (O-18 MONTHS)

The baby room is situated on the ground floor, on the right as you enter the building. In June 2O19 this unit had a revamp and now features a much more open plan layout.

The hard floor area to the right of the unit provides space for water play, messy play and mealtimes. With it's own kitchenette, bottles and snacks can be prepared from within the unit and the patio doors lead out onto a secure, sheltered garden area for little ones to enjoy outdoor play safely in all weathers.

The carpeted area to the left provides a place for children to freely explore a variety of stimulating activities and sensory resources - whilst also allowing them to begin moving around, crawling and walking at their own pace.

TODDLERS (18 MONTHS - 2 YEARS)

Toddlers are situated in a large multi-purpose room which is separated into two areas. One is a large, carpeted playroom and the other is for creative opportunities and mealtimes. There are patio doors which lead out to the garden and also access to a separate changing area which is shared with Infants.

INFANTS (2-3 YEARS)

Our infant children have three rooms to their unit, all equipped with a wide choice of activities. There is a large open plan playroom, a hard floor room for art and dining, as well as a carpeted room for story time and more quiet activities complete with feature windows to peer out of.

The separate changing room is shared with toddlers and the children have their own access point to the large shared garden. There are often trips out arranged (if parental permission is given) in the form of local walks or a visit to the park. Children are treated as individuals and by working in small groups with organised routines, we hope to provide the opportunity for children to develop at their own rate.

PRE-SCHOOL / FOUNDATION 1 (3-5 YEARS)

Moving upstairs to pre-school & foundation, the children have a very stimulating environment which is designed to cater for their age group, with appropriate toys and facilities to help all areas of learning and development for each child. Children have the opportunity to explore craft activities, role play, reading and much more.

Here their learning focuses more around preparing for life after nursery and starting big school! This unit features a carpeted play area for role play and small world activities, a hard floor area for creative activities music and movement, a cosy room for reading and quiet time as well as access to the roof deck for sand/water play. There is also a wash room for children to use independently.

The children enjoy mealtimes in the upstairs dining roomere they are encouraged to self serve and are taught basic table manners as well as the correct use of cutlery.

OUTDOOR AREA

The specially landscaped and fully enclosed garden provides an excellent outdoor play area for all age groups, designed to meet their needs at each developmental stage.

We have an outdoor class room which provides shade from the sun and shelter from winter weather, and an allotment where the children plant and nurture their own fruit, veg and flowers while learning how they grow. We also have a barked nature wildlife area with a trim trail, so the children can develop spacial awareness and build their confidence with some supervised risk taking.

In the centre of the garden we have a fantastic tree house complete with climbing wall, swing, look out point and a slide! It's fantastic for supporting role play and risky play outdoors, and it has proven a real hit with the children.

The construction area is complete with JCB digger and sand pit, here the children develop gross motor skills and problem solving. We also have access to the large football field which is shared with Kids Club, where the children can participate in group games and sports day!

The garden has been invaluable in allowing the children to explore, have fun, be independent, make choices and learn in all areas of the curriculum within a safe and secure environment. Inside and outside areas are combined in a 'free flow' style allowing children to move around the different environments via patio doors.

Send us a message! We'd love to hear from you.
